Etna Trekking Half-Day Excursion From Taormina
Our Etna Trekking excursion from Taormina is a volcanic adventure that, in just half a day, will allow you to discover the legendary landscapes of the northern side of Etna.
In fact, you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the slopes of the volcano and have the unique opportunity to touch the ancient lava flows firsthand. Moreover, we will walk together along the edge of the characteristic button-row craters and explore an evocative lava flow cave.

Lava Front from the 2002 Eruption
Board a comfortable SUV or minivan (up to 8 passengers) and immerse yourself in the wild nature of Etna. The first stop of the half-day Etna trekking tour will bring you face to face with the lava front of October 27, 2002, the largest eruption in recent times. We will visit the farthest point reached by this immense lava flow that destroyed Piano Provenzana and part of the Pineta Ragabo.
Monti Sartorius Craters
We will set off again through the evocative Bosco Ragabo, traveling along the Via Mareneve, until we reach the starting point of the Monti Sartorius craters trekking trail, near Rifugio Citelli. Our excursion will resume on foot, moving along a typical Etnean path immersed in nature, among centuries-old birches and fascinating lateral craters in a "button-row": the Monti Sartorius.
This is an easy-difficulty walk, suitable for everyone. The route, about 3 km long with an elevation gain of 110 meters, winds along the north-east side of Etna, taking us from an altitude of 1665 m to about 1775 m. You can admire unique views of the volcano and the majesty of the surrounding landscape.

Grotta dei Ladroni - Grotta delle Nevi
After our fun excursion to Monti Sartorius, we will immerse ourselves in the fascinating history of Etna by exploring the Grotta dei Ladroni, also known as the Grotta delle Nevi. Equipped with helmets and torches, we will venture into this lava flow tunnel, a true journey through time to discover the formation of the volcano.
The cave is located at Piano delle Donne at an altitude of 1540 m. The history of the Grotta dei Ladroni is also linked to human ingenuity, as evidenced by the date carved on a rock at the entrance: 1776. In the past, the cave was also used as a snow storage, accumulating snow in the winter months and then reselling it in the warmer months. The cave was therefore enlarged, steps were carved into the lava and holes were made in the surface to facilitate the accumulation of snow.
