Etna Nord Excursion
The Etna excursion and Wine tour begins in an SUV or minivan (up to 8 passengers per vehicle) from the picturesque village of Linguaglossa, on the slopes of the highest active volcano in Europe. The first step of our tour is an off-road drive to the lava front of 10/27/2002, the biggest eruption in the last twenty years, which destroyed the ski resort of Piano Provenzana and part of the Ragabo pine forest.
We will then travel through the Ragabo pine forest, along the Mareneve road, reaching the Monti Sartorius craters, where our excursion immersed in the nature and colors of Etna will continue on foot. This is a walk of easy difficulty, suitable for everyone; the route is about 3km long in total, starting at an altitude of 1665m and arriving at an altitude of about 1775m.
We will walk along an easy path, among birch trees and side button craters (“bottoniera”), the Sartorius Craters, on the north-eastern slope of Etna. We will reach several vantage points with unique and spectacular views.
The third and last stage of our Etna excursion will be the exploration of a lava flow tunnel: the Grotta dei Ladroni (also called Grotta delle Nevi). Equipped with helmets and torches we will enter this cave to discover the underground beauty of Etna.
Typical Sicilian Lunch and Etna Wine Tasting
After the morning excursion to Mount Etna, the tour continues with a visit to a typical Etnean winery, where you will be able to taste various Etnean wines and delight your palate with a full lunch that includes: appetizers, a first course, a second course with side dish, and to finish, of course, a typical Sicilian dessert. Each course will be paired with the tasting of a different Etnean wine, for a total of 4 wines (for the dessert, a traditional liqueur wine). You can quench your thirst by drinking our fresh Etna water.
During the visit to the winery, our sommeliers will tell you about viticulture in Sicily, the winemaking processes and the history of the winery and in particular of the wines that you are going to taste. The experience concludes with a relaxing walk through the vineyard where you will enjoy the panoramic view of the Sicilian countryside, overlooked by the volcano Mount Etna.
In summary, this half-day tour to Mount Etna is the perfect opportunity to discover the natural beauty of the volcano, its geological history and the wine and gastronomic culture of Sicily, a unique and memorable experience.
