Why check the webcams before your excursion.

Volcanic activityPlumes, ash or lava fountains: the images show what is happening at altitude right now.
Mountain weatherCloud, fog and wind on the craters can be very different from the weather in town: better to see them for yourself.
SnowFrom November to spring the webcams show how much snow lies on the slopes and help you choose the right clothing.

From Etna North to Etna South

The south side is Nicolosi, Rifugio Sapienza and the cable car; the north side is Linguaglossa and Piano Provenzana, quieter and covered with pine and birch woods. Our base is in Linguaglossa.

Looking at several webcams together gives you the full picture: it can be sunny on the north side and cloudy on the south, or the other way round. That is why we choose the route and the side of every excursion according to the day’s conditions.

Etna eruption live

When Etna is active, the webcams let you follow lava fountains and flows from hundreds of kilometres away, especially in the evening. Flows from the summit craters often run towards the Valle del Bove on the eastern side.

The images are a spectacle, not an official bulletin: INGV and the Civil Protection are the authorities on the volcano’s status and any ordinances. Our guides adapt their routes to the rules in force.

Questions about the Etna webcams

Can I watch Etna live?

Yes. This page lists seven Etna webcams: the summit craters, the north side at Piano Provenzana and the south side down to Rifugio Sapienza. The live streams are run by SkylineWebcams: clicking a webcam opens the video on their website.

How do I know if Etna is erupting today?

The webcams show what is happening at altitude, but the volcano’s official status is published by INGV’s Etna Observatory in its bulletins and statements. Any access restrictions are set by the authorities.

Do excursions run during an eruption?

Often they do, and it is a unique sight: the guide adapts the route to the volcano’s activity and to the ordinances in force. If the excursion cannot go ahead safely, we contact you in advance.

Which webcam should I check for snow and weather?

Rifugio Sapienza for the south side and Piano Provenzana for the north side. The higher webcams show whether the craters are clear of cloud.

Who runs the webcams?

The webcams do not belong to Dream Island: they are operated by SkylineWebcams. We collect them here for anyone planning an Etna excursion.
