Tour Schedule Etna sunset tour at 2000 meters

Lava Front of the 2002 eruption

  • Get on board our comfortable SUV or minivan (up to 8 passengers per vehicle) and immerse yourself in the wild beauty of Mount Etna. The first stop on the tour will take you to the lava front of October 27 2002, the furthest point reached by what was the largest eruption in recent times. This eruption changed the Etna North landscape, destroying the ski facilities at Piano Provenzana and part of the Ragabo Pine Forest.

Piano Provenzana Etna Nord

  • We will proceed traversing the Ragabo Forest, along the Mareneve road, arriving at 1800m altitude at Piano Provenzana.

  • Piano Provenzana is the reference point for skiing activities on the Etna North side, but also for many hiking activities. It is a unique location immersed in a pine forest, recalling the classic appearance of an alpine setting and offering spectacular views as far as the Ionian Sea and the Strait of Messina.

Hiking to the 2002 Craters

  • Leaving behind Piano Provenzana, we will leave for our unforgettable adventure towards the Craters of 2002. This is a fairly easy trek; you will be guided by an expert who will be able to adapt the pace to the different needs of the group, with regular breaks to relax and fully enjoy the beauty of the landscape.

  • The trail winds through ancient lava flows and canyons shaped by lava, until it reaches a high-altitude plateau where nature is beginning to revive. We will pass near the base of the crater Monte Nero degli Zappini, so you can admire its grandeur from a close-up perspective.

  • We will then reach the 2002 Craters, at an elevation of 2050m. Walking on the edges of the craters you will reach a vantage point with breathtaking views: the east coast of Sicily, the Aeolian Islands, the Ionian Sea and the Strait of Messina merging with Calabria on the horizon.

  • Culmination of the day will be an evocative sunset at high altitude on Mount Etna, a magical and romantic moment to savor the peace and vastness of Europe’s highest active volcano.
