Our half day Etna off-road tour will take you at the heart of the mountain’s untouched nature, recently listed as a UNESCO World’s Heritage Site, where you can visit some of the most suggestive extinct craters, caves and solidified lava flows. Join Dream Island on this adventure and don’t miss the thrill of an off-road tour on Mount Etna during your stay in Sicily.
Tour itinerary:
A minivan (max 8 people) will collect you and take you to our jeeps, and we will drive up the mountain on the notorious Mareneve road, acclaimed by the National Geographic as one of the 70 most picturesque routes in Europe. We will travel through ancient solidified lava flows (sciare) and the pine forest (Pineta Ragabo) till we reach the front of the lava flow from the 2002 eruption. We will then continue on foot, starting at an altitude of 1650 metres, trekking through stunning birchen paths to discover the Sartorious craters, a long line of extinct craters commonly known as ‘bottoniera’. We will reach a point at 1700 metres altitude from which you can admire the breath-taking panorama encompassing the turquoise waters of the Ionian Sea and the stunning mountainous ranges of the Nebrodi and Peloritani. Before going back to base, you will take part in an exciting excursion inside the “Grotta dei Ladroni” cave; flashlights and helmets will be provided.
