During the Etna and Wine Tasting Excursion we will discover the Etna area, transporting you to a “Volcano” of unique and overwhelming smells, flavors and beauties. Unforgettable and wide experiences that vary from the fresh mountain air to the sea breeze. This excursion is the richest of our excursions on Etna and will make you “live a unique experience”, a different way to visit the cellars and taste the wines produced on the highest active volcano in Europe.
For thousands of years Etna has been the ideal place for the production of wine. The unparalleled struggle between Man and the volcano has tamed the land for the cultivation of wine. An endless succession of terraces and walls made of lava stones form vineyards that are one with the volcano. Man here interacts – often with difficulty – with a beautiful but equally complicated environment.
Here everything is extreme, including optimal cultivation of the vine.
Grown at altitudes between 500 and 1400 meters above sea level, these are the places with the strongest wine-growing vocation, and the most representative vineyards of the Etna oenology. The oldest denomination of D.O.C.wines is due to these vineyards!
Our Etna Excursion and Wine – Etna and Wine tasting will begin in a minivan (up to 8 people), showing you unique Etna sites up to 1800m, the highest elevation reachable by road. The route we will travel to reach the peaks of the volcano is the famous Mareneve (recognized by National Geographic among the 70 most desirable routes to follow). We will continue with a short trek through the woods to see the majesty of a lava front and a crater of Etna.
Once the Etna tour is complete, we will reach the Barone Miceli family estate, and the Patria winery, the largest, oldest and among the most important wineries on Etna. An informal sommelier will guide you first through the cellar and then to a tasting of 5 Sicilian wines + 1 passito + 1 grappa, all products made inside the cellar. Flavors that will make you appreciate the complexity of the Etna grapes. A full lunch of appetizer, first course, second course and dessert will be served.
