About this experience

Walk upstream between the basalt walls of the Alcantara Gorges, then let the current carry you back on a guided body-rafting descent. A river adventure combining movement, cold water and the volcanic landscape of Motta Camastra.

01Complete programme

The activity takes place in organised groups inside the Alcantara lava canyon at Motta Camastra. After changing into your river equipment, follow the guides upstream for about 400 metres, negotiating rocks, rapids and pools of cold water.

The return is a body-rafting descent: your body becomes a raft as you move with the current through the river’s cascades and rapids. Along the way, the basalt walls rise up to 25 metres and some passages narrow to about 2 metres, revealing the vertical fractures of the lava rock.

Arrive 30 minutes before your confirmed session to change into the river equipment.

Swimwear, towel & flip-flops

Bring these for changing before and after the river activity.

A 5 mm wetsuit, buoyancy aid, helmet and neoprene shoes are provided. Changing rooms, showers and storage are available.

Massimo really knows a lot of things about everything we asked not only about mount Etna but also a lot of different things like living in Sicilia, the cities, the history. We were really excited about the trip and we are not disappointed at all so I highly recommend booking the tour with Max.
